Undergraduate Economics
Tutoring for first-year Economics modules
Targeted support for first-year undergraduates on introductory modules in economics.
First-year modules in economics vary significantly in terms of content in UK universities. My tutoring is focused on four areas common to most first-year undergraduate programmes.
- Introductory microeconomics: consumer behaviour, market equilibrium analysis, business-decision-making, market structures, market failure, contemporary policy issues influencing government intervention.
- Introductory macroeconomics: national income models, AD-AS and IS-LM analysis, economic growth, fiscal and monetary policy, supply-side policy, trade theory, international competitiveness, globalisation, economic development.
- Applied data analysis: sourcing economic data, strengths and limitations of different data sources, presentation of data, interpreting statistical measures, analysing and evaluating empirical evidence in applied economic contexts.
- Essay technique: formulating essay introductions, evidence-based argumentation, analytical paragraph structures, embedding criticality and originality in constructing arguments, synthesising and evaluating in context, and writing cogent conclusions.
FAQ
Common questions
-
How long is a typical session?
Online sessions are 30, 60 or 90 minutes. Home visits are 60, 90 or 120 minutes. Most A-level students find 60 minutes a week plus extra around mocks and exams works well.
-
Where does tutoring take place?
Either at the student's home for in-person sessions across south west London, central London and Surrey, or online via video call for students anywhere in the UK and overseas.
-
What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice to reschedule a session without charge. Less than 24 hours' notice is charged at the full session rate. I am flexible around illness and emergencies.
-
Do I need to commit to weekly sessions?
No. Many students book weekly through the year. Others book intensive blocks before mocks or final exams. I tailor frequency to the student's timeline and goals.
-
What areas do you cover for home visits?
South west London, central London and parts of Surrey. The areas covered page lists every town in detail. For students further afield, I tutor online.
